Do You Feel Like a Winner?

When you work at home, it can get be very easy to get caught up in living a casual life- working in your pjs, taking coffee breaks at leisure, no makeup, no hair, taking meetings via teleconference or video chat (rather than face to face). The question you should ask yourself every day is this: Do I feel like a winner?

For me, there's something great about looking good (hair done, slight makeup), sunglasses on, and going out (even if it's just for a walk) feeling like a winner. Sweats, no make-up and grandma slippers never quite do that for me.

While it's fun and relaxing to be your own boss and to work at your own leisure, make sure you spice things up by doing at least one thing a day that makes you feel like a winner. In the "Science of Getting Rich", Wallace D. Wattles asserts that we should always present ourselves as an "advancing personality."

What's one thing you can do for you today to show (to yourself and your clients) that you are an advancing personality? Do that one thing today!

What if you Knew You Couldn't Fail?

I'm putting out information on the web about my Veteran's Day 50% off sale on coaching and I was just writing this headline: What if you knew you couldn't fail? and it dawns on me... How powerful is that!

Think about it. What if you knew that no matter what you chose or did, you couldn't fail? What if you knew that life was about results and lessons and not about failure, that everything that happens happens for a reason and comes to teach you something, that in every obstacle there's an opportunity and in every moment that feels like tragedy, there's triumph? What if you knew that the disappointment you're feeling today is preparing you for something so awesome tomorrow that you couldn't possibly even imagine it in this moment? What if you knew that your gut was right, that your intution is always on key? What choices would you have made differently? What actions would you be taking right now?

And the simple truth is this: you can't fail. Every choice makes you better, stronger, wiser, clearer on what you want. Why not choose you? Why not live your life on your own terms when failure isn't part of your vocabulary?

I was watching Extreme Home Makeover on Sunday and there was this man who was born in Egypt, premature, cerebral palsy, thrown in a garbage can as a newborn, and now owns his own coffee shop when they said that he'd never walk, get married, or have children. And you know what he said? "Can't is not in my vocabulary."

Think about that... Is can't in your vocabulary? It shouldn't be.

What if you knew you couldn't fail? Can you even imagine what amazing things you'd be choosing to do right now?

The Opportunities In This Economy

We are living in a time of change, learning and growth. There's been too much emphasis on what is not working about our economy. If you are feeling fear and worry about your finances, it's time to change that. You create what you think about and focusing on fear of lack will only create more lack. What's key, here, is to see the opportunities (and not the obstacles). Here are 10 things you can do to maximize your ROI (Return On Investment) in your financial life:

#1- Decide what you want for your financial future. Too many of us, in the past few years, got caught up in the idea that the only way we could live a good life is by taking out debt (mortgages, credit cards, loans, refinances, etc.). Is this the way you want to live? It's time now to make a conscious choice about what you want for your financial future. If you want to own your home cash, put it in writing. If you want to own your vehicles, furniture and pay cash for items, put it in writing. It's time to identify the standards by which you are creating your financial future.

#2- Live more by living on less. Do you really need everything you have? Get rid of all the things that are not essential to your life. There are those who thought, five years ago, that having a Suburban was essential. Now, when they go to the gas pump, they're having second thoughts. Upgrade your life by identifying what you really need and staying within that frame of mind.

#3- Walk more, drive less. It's better for the environment. It's better for your wallet. Just think, "Why haven't we been doing this already?" Sometimes, things have to happen to force us into a situation where we do the things we should've always done. Walk, get exercise and save the environment.

#4- Accelerate your mortgage with a mortgage acceleration program and pay off your home in 10 or less years (rather than the typical 30). Every mortgage company offers a mortgage acceleration program where you add $200 - $300 a month to what you currently pay on your mortgage (this goes straight to the principal balance) and you end up paying off your mortgage in half the time. Remember: you don't own your home until you physical have the deed.

#5- If you don't own a home or have lost a home to foreclosure, make it very clear to yourself that you will buy your next home cash. If you expect the best (and settle for nothing less), you will ALWAYS get it. This mortgage crisis is a real wake-up for people that says, "We need to own and control our homes and maintain our sense of safety and security." The only way to do that is to OWN your own home. A mortgage is not owning. You have borrowed money from a bank and they own your home until you pay it off.

#6- Do not buy a brand new car. Buy a used car cash. New cars depreciate by more than $6,000 the moment they're driven off the lot. Do not waste money on brand new cars or on paying interest on car notes. Freedom means not owing anyone anything. Free yourself. Pay off your car notes and make a commitment to never have another one again.

#7- Start a business. Each person has, within them, at least 10 phenomenal business ideas. Even in an economic downturn, people still need certain things. Line your skills up with consumer need that exists, whether the economy is great or not, and be in control of your money-earning potential.

#8- Stop putting a price tag on your life. If you find that all you think about is money, start volunteering, find a way to serve others and make a difference. The more you focus on the money you need, the farther the money you need goes away from you.

#9- Know that you are provided for. Do not let this economy scare you. Think "Have you ever starved? Have you ever not had enough to stay alive?" If you're reading this, obviously the answer is yes. You are provided for. Trust it.

#10- Know that you live in an endlessly abundant world. It may not feel like it right now but you are a 'yes' person, living in a 'yes' world, being responded to by a 'yes' universe. Know that there's a yes even when you don't get what you want. Breakthroughs always come after breakdowns. Find the opportunities and take hold of them!

What are you Giving Birth to This Labor Day?

Labor Day is a phenomenal opportunity to rest, rejuvenate and recommit ourselves to the labors of love we call our life's work. No matter what your calling, this is a day to commemorate all that you've put into living life on purpose and it's also a day to evaluate what it is you are now conceiving and carrying and birthing in your life.

To reach your highest potential means to connect with who you really are by serving the world in all of the ways you were sent here to serve. The first step is DISCOVERY. Key to discovering or rediscovering your calling comes in making you a priority in your own life. Many people are afraid to be alone. Make no mistake. You are NEVER alone. Wherever you go, there you are and, if you're feeling lonely, it can only mean one thing: you don't like the company you're keeping, namely you.

This Labor Day, reconnect to the you that is fabulous, loving, kind, amazing to watch, endearing to listen to and extraordinary to be around. Rediscover who that is so you can move into the next step which is RELEASE. Before deciding what direction you're going in, you have to be willing to release ALL expectations of what you "should" be doing. Everyone comes here with a multitude of gifts and talents that can lend themselves to any number of professions and callings. Once you are willing to release your hold on what you "should" be doing, you qickly learn a life altering truth: you don't choose your calling; your calling chooses you. You'll know which one to do next because it will choose you.

The third step is TRANSFORMATION. The moment you choose you and open your life up to all the possibilities of your calling, a transformation takes place. It is constant, imposing and transfiguring. All of a sudden, you are all of you; greater than you ever thought yourself to be and, yet, more connected to everyone and everything in a way that surpasses understanding. You see the beauty in everything. You learn not to sweat the small stuff. You trust your intuition and know that life is bigger than you. In this place, you bloom like a flower and your light shines for all to see. It's the beginning of a new way of seeing life that you gave birth to.

Response Time is Important But Patience is Essential

Making a million dollars in your business requires that you sell a million dollar’s worth of product/services. How do you do that? By offering a million dollar’s worth of value to your customers. One of the best ways to offer a million dollar’s worth of value to your customers is by being extremely responsive, so responsive that they hear from you before they thought they would, they receive your products before the quoted mailing time and they feel, as your customer or potential customer, that you are always on their mind. Whether a customer/client is paying $1.85 for a grande coffee or $155.00/mo for an Equinox Fitness Club Membership, they want to feel like they are your number one priority and successful businesspeople understand this.

Response Time is Important.
#1) Return emails as quickly as possible. I love my Blackberry because it allows me to get emails instantaneously. I’m able to respond back to clients, even if it’s to say, “It’s going to take me some time to get back to you on this issue but I’ll email you in detail by the end of the day.” That response given back within minutes of the email being received goes a long way with a client.

#2) Keep your websites updated, especially your blogs. There’s nothing worse than jumping on to your site and seeing that you haven’t written anything in months. Even if it’s just to say “Business is changing. Stay tuned!”, keep your sites updated.

#3) Deal with customer complaints, questions and concerns IMMEDIATELY. This is not optional. Whenever there is a question about your service, a complaint about your product or an objection to overcome, handle that IMMEDIATELY. Waiting a few hours can, in some instances, kill a deal.

#4) If you’re going to communicate, have something to say and say it well. Your words are powerful. Fast response times are great when you’re using the right words but fast response times with incomplete or inappropriate responses are nothing to be proud of. You have to be at the top of your game always WHILE providing fast response turnaround times.

Response time is very important. It’s critical to respond appropriately in as little time as possible but here’s the flip side: you, as the business owner, have it as your responsibility, to respond as quickly and effectively as possible. After all, if you’re making a million dollars a year, you’re charging $500 an hour. As a customer, if I’m paying $500/hour, I expect to be responded to quickly. However, you cannot expect your customers to jump to buy or purchase from you, especially if you haven’t laid the ground work of establishing report and building relationships.

Too many entrepreneurs expect people to buy from them at astronomical rates in very little time because their products are good. That’s not the way this thing works. Successful businesspeople know that the first and last thing you do to experience sustainable maximum profitability, is BUILD RELATIONSHIPS. That’s the secret! There’s no other secret but that and building relationships takes time AND patience. So, while you’ve got very little time to get back to your clients/customers, your clients and customers can take their time getting back to you and can take their time buying and you have to have the patience and persistence to keep building the relationship even though, at the moment, it’s not reaping you immediate profitability.

That’s why it’s so important to have multiple streams of revenue. Depending on one product line or a select group of clients to provide your overall income is a disaster in the making. Pressure fills you because if you don’t close them or that deal, you don’t eat. Now, if you have money coming from all directions, as you build your relationships with these clients, you can be patient and enjoy the client building relationship process. You can flow with life in joy and ease and without the added stress of NEEDING to close the deal.

So, the bottom line is this: Your response time, as the business owner, is crucial and should be as fast and effective as possible the FIRST and LAST time but PATIENCE is required, on your part, as you build and sustain customer relationships. Sounds like a double edged sword but it’s actually a well choreographed tango.

A New Turn in the Evolution of ROI Coaching

Last night, I did some soul searching about my coaching practice. Having spent many years corporate consulting and coaching executives, I knew that something in my business needed to shift if I was going to expand to the heights I envision. The barefoot executive ( gave me some food for thought and I began to envision the expansion of ROI Coaching through the narrowing of my target market and something I'd always coached corporate clients on came back to me like a hit on the head: specialize, don't generalize.

Business Rule #1 to getting ROI is this: If you want to grow your business, become a specialist, not a generalist. Develop your niche.

Having had so many clients with so many different objectives, a part of me didn't want to specialize but now I've come to a very important decision. I'm narrowing down ROI Coaching to a specialty that I absolutely love and adore: coaching women through life transitions so they can achieve success by making themselves the priority!

I've long said that choosing you is the most unselfish thing you could ever do as a woman and my greatest and most beloved coaching work has come when I worked with women who made the remarkable choice to choose themselves, often for the very first time in all of their lives. This is my passion. This is my bliss. This, thank you very much barefoot executive, is my WHY.

So I declare, with all due respect, that my client focus has shifted and I'm only taking on clients who are women ready to experience life at full throttle. Why Compassion is So Important

We're all born with the propensity for compassion and empathy, the ability to understand and relate to where another person's coming from, to "feel" their pain and to support them through difficult times. But, as we get older and "wiser", we move into a place where we don't always use the compassion we have. When was the last time you saw a parent in a store with a noisy child and thought "If I were his mom, I'd handle that much better than she is" or in a restaurant watching a couple fight and thought "That is so embarassing. I would never do that"? Here's an important life lesson: Never say never.

Two words that I think we should eliminate from our vocabulary is Never and Always. It doesn't apply to 99.999% of all life experiences. The moment you say "never", you invite that "never" to come into your life and prove you wrong.

Ever hear the saying "People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones?" How true that is. Judgment never helped anyone. A major reason we go through life experiences (especially the life altering ones) is to learn how to be more compassionate. If you've ever been poor, you can relate to people going through the experience of not having the basics in life. If you've ever had your heart broken, you can better relate to someone going through a devastating breakup. If you've ever had difficulty getting pregnant, you can more easily connect to other women who are trying to conceive.

When you haven't been down those roads, yes, you can empathize and yes you can be compassionate but I've learned more about compassion through my life experiences than I ever could've learned without them. It's a natural tendency to judge others but, when you go through something serious, it puts EVERYTHING in an entirely new perspective and the next time you come across someone in that situation, instead of saying "What they should've done", you now say, "How can I help?" You encourage rather than criticize. You support rather than lecture.

Compassion is a learned skill. Take every experience and grow your level of compassion!

What do you BELIEVE?

There are certain things I have come to understand about life (and am still coming to understand):

1- Everything has a gestation period; you can't grow a baby in 3 months; you can't grow a tomato in 2 weeks; if what you're doing in your life is growing an oak, don't expect it to grow in a willow's time. There's a gestation period to everything.

2- Set your intention and keep your attention focused on creating it; when you focus on what you don't want, you get more of that; when you focus on what you DO want, you look for the signs that, everyday, remind you you're getting closer.

3- There are no such things as obstacles, just opportunities; Everything that happens happens for a reason and it's up to us to find the seed of the equivalent advantage and see it so.

4- When something less than desirable happens, I work very hard not to see it as a struggle but I also don't say, "This is wonderful!" and go into gratitude for the experience if it's a tragic or negative one; I see it as an opportunity to learn and grow and to tell the universe "I am who I say I am" and continue on knowing that I'll have what I've set out to have.

Words have power. But it's not what you say that counts; it's what you FEEL about what you say. You could tell me "I'm going to be a millionaire" and, if, underneathe that talk, is "I'll never make it. I'll always be poor", there's your result. It's not what you say but what you FEEL about what you say that draws the energy to accomplish just that.

One of my favorite quotes comes from "A Warrior of the Light" by Paulo Coelho:

"A Warrior of the Light is reliable. He makes a few mistakes, he sometimes thinks he is more important than he really is, but he does not lie.

When people gather around the fire, he talks to his friends, male and female. He knows that his words are stored in the memory of the Universe, like a testimony of what he thinks.

The Warrior asks himself: "Why do I talk so much, when often I am incapable of carrying out everything I say?"

His heart replies: "When you defend your ideas in public, you then have to make an effort to live accordingly." It is because he BELIEVES that he is what he says he is that the Warrior ends up becoming precisely that."

You are Not What You Do...

In a fast paced, constantly changing world, it's important to take a moment, every now and then, and remind ourselves:

I am not what I do.

You are not what you do. You are not your business, your degrees, your social status, your marital status, your household income. You are not any of those things. Why?

Because if you ARE what you do, when what you do goes away, who are you? No one. If you are what you have, what happens when your material possessions go away? You no longer exist. If you are your marital, parenthood, or social status, what happens when those things are no longer a major focus in your life? You no longer have a focus.

It's important to get to the very heart of who you are. Who you are transcends what you do or have. Who you are is and was and will be forever. Life changes but who you are a divine piece of existence never will.

Remember: You are not what you do or have. You transcend all of that. Take time to just be.

Are You Afraid of Failure? Or of Success?

When we think about what concerns us about making a major life shift (like starting a business, moving into a new career, having children, getting married (or unmarried), relocating across country, and the list goes on), one of the first things that will come up is fear.

Most of us think that the fear is grounded in the fear of failure...

What if this business doesn't make money?
What if I'm not happy?
What if I move here and I don't find a job?
What if I have children and I'm not able to give them everything I want to give them in life?

The questions could go on forever. But, what most of us don't realize, is that our fear is not grounded in failure...

You've gone to school. You've moved before. You've raised children (even somebody else's). You know that this business is your passion and your dream and nobody can do it better.

It's not the fear of failure that gets us most of the time. It's the fear of success.

If you now become as successful as you've always dreamed you could be, what's next? What is there left to conquer? What will the cost be for your success? Will you be able to handle it? How will friends and family react to your newfound success? What about your life will change? Will you be ready?

These are all fears of success. I love Susan Jeffers' book "Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway." She says there's nothing wrong with fear. We all have it. It's not going anywhere. The greatest thing you can do is say, "Whatever comes, I can handle it" and feel the fear and do it anyway.

The real question to ask yourself is this:

When you feel fear, are you using it as an engine or a brake?

Infinite Patience Produces Immediate Results

Do you, like me, have those days where you wish things would happen faster? More business, more clients, the new house, the new car? You can get lost in the "I want it yesterday" mentality.

Most of us spend most of our energy in time is what was or what will be (past or future) but not in the present. Louise L. Hay says, "Today is the future I created yesterday" but what future are you creating if you're always in yesterday or tomorrow but never fully present in today?

When I get into those "I want everything yesterday" mentalies, I use deep breathing and one thought to get myself present, "Infinite patience produces immediate results." When you know everything you need you have, when you have a knowingness that everything you want is on its way, that there's no stopping a dream whose time has come, there's no need to worry about how its getting here; it's on its way. Infinite patience means you trust that it is on its way; in fact, you know it is and because you know it is, you don't worry about the when; the when will take care of itself and because you don't worry about the when, the time between not having it and having it seems to fly by.

Try it. When you get off of yesterday or tomorrow and stay in the now of what you're creating, see how fast the time flies between intending something and bringing that intention to pass.

Why "You" is Key To Your Business

Semantics… the meaning of words. Do you know the power of your words? Do you know that what you tell yourself can make or break a business? Do you realize that what you say to your potential clients and customers can make or break a sale? Today’s wealthy tip is all about the power of “you.”

Many business owners talk about their business by referring to “we.” “We” sounds like a large company. “We” sounds like a team of people there to help and guide customers. “We” sounds powerful. But what “we” doesn’t do is answer a potential client/customer’s first and most important question, “What’s in it for me?”

The Tip for Today-
Take “we” out of your business vocabulary. Stop saying “we” and start saying “you.”

Tell clients:
“This is how you’ll benefit from my products…”
“You’ll become this…”
“This system will greatly serve your needs by…”

We reflects what you hope to sell; you reflects what customers need to buy. Customers want to know that you know what they need: their business, their industry, the current trends, their profit, their productivity, that you know everything there is to know about who they are, not just what your product is and why they should buy it.

Customers are always looking to find answers to the questions of how to make their lives easier, better, stronger, and more peaceful. They’re looking for benefits and they’re willing to pay good money for a product or service that they perceive has value. The customer is qualifying you from the very first moment. “You” creates value; “we” tries to sell. The next time you come face to face with a client, show them that you know what’s in it for them by using “you” instead of “we.”

If you find yourself walking through life thinking, "How can I get what I want? What is it going to take to make this happen?", you'll also find that there are many times when you feel like you're giving and giving and getting less and less. Why do you feel this way?


The generous person gives with no expectation. They give ONLY WHAT THEY HAVE TO GIVE. If you are giving your time and energy to someone who is taking that time and energy and using it for their benefit and their benefit alone, you are not being generous. You are being used and what you're giving out really isn't what you actually have to give because the generous person knows their boundaries. They are able to confidently say, "This is enough. I honor myself by setting my boundaries." When you give too much, you max out the credit card called "my energy." You'll know when you've done this because you will give to someone and you'll always walk away feeling like you've lost something.

That's not generosity.

Generosity is simple, kind, and readily available. It's about giving 100% even when you don't have to. It's about treating people the way you'd want to be treated. It's about waiting to give if you can't give in the way you intuitively know you should be giving.

You can't be a cheap skate and be generous. You can't underpay your employees and be generous. You can't expect the world of people and not be willing to give the world to people and think you're generous. That's the biggest illusion.

There are many who think they're generous because they're kind. Not true. You can be kind and give nothing to no one. Generosity requires release. Release requires openness. Openness requires understanding of the self, YOUR SELF.

Generosity begins by asking one simple question, "How can I serve today?"

That is generosity. Know that this is an abundant world where there is more than enough for everyone. If you feel like someone's taken advantage of you, take your power back by knowing that everything happens for a reason and all things turn out exceptionally well because there is no limit to what you can do.

When you know that there's more than enough for everyone, every gift is a gift that keeps giving. Know your limits, know yourself, and give with a conscious understanding of the difference between giving to give and giving to get.

Whose Approval Do You Really Need?

It's an important question. Approval is a wonderful thing. It's great when a spouse, friend, or family member says "You're amazing" or "You're doing a great job." We all love approval. But how do we know when we're approval needing as opposed to approval seeking?

The answer is clear: when you care more about what other people think of you than what you think of you and when their opinions (especially negative ones) inform what you choose to do, say, or how you behave, then you've got a problem. Why? Because when you base your life on the opinions of others, you turn over the controls of your life to them. You are now living life on their terms and not your own.

What's the solution?

#1- Make approval something you enjoy but not something you need

#2- Learn the statement, "What you think of me is none of business" and use it often

#3- Value your opinions of you more highly than anybody else and TRUST those opinions that you have of yourself. Speak only good things about yourself and trust that you ARE ENOUGH.

What do you want for your life?

It's so important to ask the right questions. Most of the time when we don't get the right answers it's because we don't ask the right questions. A big question is this:

What am I here to do?

What are You Committed To?

It's important, every week or two, to take a personal inventory. The big question to ask yourself is, "What are you committed to?"

What is your goal? What are your dreams? Do you spend most of the week focused on achieving it, sold on what's working, looking for all the signs and experiences that will get you to the goal or do you spend the week thinking about how unlikely the dream is, what's not working, why it won't work, and listening to all the naysayers who would rather tell you what you "should" be doing rather than helping you achieve the dream?

All of these experiences are gifts. In every obstacle, there's a test AND an opportunity. This is your time to say, "I really, really, really want this and I will do whatever it takes to achieve this."

I had a very interesting lesson in WalMart this morning. I was standing behind a young mother with two small kids in front of the soda machine. Her three year old son said, "I want soda" and the mom said, "No, agua." He said, "I want soda." She replied, "No soda, agua." Well, he kept saying what he wanted and his mom tried to go to one machine and buy water. Guess what? All the water was sold out. She went to another machine to choose iced tea. Guess what? All the iced tea was sold out. She went back to the original machine and what did her little boy get? Soda.

What is the lesson?

When you really, really, really, really want something and you focus on having it, the whole universe conspires in your favor and you get what you want.

Don't Be Conditioned By Your Condition

We all come from a set of experiences, belief systems, or patterns of behaving that have taught us what to expect, how to feel about what we think is possible for our lives. But it is not the conditions of our life experiences that make us. It's how we handle, interpret, and transform those conditions to fit into the overall schema of how we want our lives to work.

What do I mean?

You may be poor. You may be unemployed. You may be homeless. You may be infertile. You may be paralyzed. You may have lost loved ones. You ARE NOT your situation. You are the rebirth, the transformation, the learning, the evolution on the journey of life that has come out of these situations. Don't allow what has happened to you to become you. Don't let what you've experienced to become the standard for what you will experience.

Above and beyond all else, take your conditions and use them as catalysts into your future. Make your conditions your cheerleaders. Make your circumstances your reasons for pressing on. See your failures as results (and only that) and use them to get better, to work smarter (harder), and to persist.

Don't be conditioned by your conditions. Use your conditions to decide who you are, what you want, and how you will get it.
